Our Post prides itself on providing our Veterans a valuable service. Here are a few of these items:
Education. We provide free quarterly seminars in coordination with the Oneida Veterans Service Agency and our VFW Service Officer, assisting veterans and their families to navigate the VA processes. During these seminars we have special guest speakers such as a funeral director to explain Survivor benefits. We also assist Veterans in creating their ID me account and requesting their military retirement documentation (DD214) from the National Archives.
Donations. We donate our handicap accessible building to be used by charitable organizations such as the Red Cross for Blood drives, Oneida County for National, State and local elections and donate space for the Utica Veterans Outreach center for clothes collections. We provide monetary donations for several local organizations. We also have a separate relief funds for our sick, injured, or hospitalized veterans. We handicap equipment such as wheelchairs and similar items that we provide upon request and if available.
Food assistance. We provide food assistance during holidays to veterans as requested.
Handyman services. we have a free handyman service for veterans that need minor services in their homes. (example: repair a hole in the wall or changing an outlet).
Color Guard. Our Color Guard provides, at no cost, a firing detail for Veterans and Memorial Day ceremonies to the city of Rome. The Post Color Guard also provides a detail to post the colors for special events. For VFW Veterans, we perform a VFW Ritual at the Veterans wake.
