We are excited to bring our members a new program to assist you with some of your small home projects.
The VFW Handyman Program!!
Commanders Corner
Dear members,
As some may have heard, there are some exciting changes happening at our Post. We are working on updating our best business practices for our canteen among other items. Part of the changes was creating our Corporate-By-Laws (CBL) to manage our Canteen. Our Board of Directors has passed the CBL. Now it goes to our membership for discussion and vote. We would like to do this at our 10 July meeting. This is a 30-page document. You can drop by the post and pick up a copy or you can send us your email and we will email it to you for an early read. If you have any questions, please come to the member meeting so we can talk in length. I am excited for the future of our post. We are discussing new ideas to improve our post and canteen. If you have any suggestions or comments on making our canteen and/or post better, please come to the meeting or ask for a comment/suggestion card at the bar. We appreciate any ideas or thoughts you may have. Thank You.
Great News!!!!!!!!!!
The City Common Counsel approved an amendment to donate $100,000 of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to our post improvement fund. These additional funds will allow us to begin the much-needed work on all the deteriorated wood around our beautiful building. We already have a reasonable bid and we will discuss and vote on this item at our next member meeting.
Huge kudos to Ron Barry for noticing an article in the Sentinel which Mayor Lanigan discussed the ARPA. VFW leadership met with Mayor Lanigan to discuss the possibility of the VFW securing a portion of the ARPA funds for the posts remaining projects. The results of this meeting are in the paragraph above. Once again-great job by Ron!!
The current project of repairing the brick and block work is almost complete. Approximately 2 weeks more and the project will be finished. And if all goes well, we may be able to start on the wood work in July after our member meeting 10 July.
Nominations for Senior Vice Commander
With the vacancy of the Post Commander position and the current Senior Vice Commander filling that vacancy, per VFW By-Laws, we now have a vacant Senior Vice Commander position. We will hold a special election for the Senior Vice Commander at our next scheduled meeting on 10 July 2024 at 1800. We will take nominations, discussion if needed, and vote. If there is only one member nominated, we can elect by acclimation. Which basically means that if the position is not contested, we can vote by a simple yea or nay vote. If you are interested in the position, please send us an email at VFW2246@gmail.com. We know the vacation season is in full swing however, we hope to see many of you in July. Enjoy your summer!!
