New VFW Handyman Program

We are excited to bring our members a new program to assist you with some of your small home projects.

The VFW Handyman Program!!

It is an easy process to request our help:
1. on the left side, make sure you are on the HOME page  (HOME is underlined)
2. on the top left, click on the dark red “Work Order” box
3. complete the requested information
4. click “Submit” at the bottom of page
Your work order request will be emailed to the VFW. We will prioritize the work orders and assign fellow VFW members to stop by and talk to you about your project. If it within our abilities, we will help you tackle your project.
Examples of what we can help you with: minor drywall repair, minor carpentry, minor plumbing, TV wall mounts, change filters, flush hot water tank, assemble furniture, caulking (tubs, showers, etc), replace ceiling fans, replace toilet flapper/valve, replace smoke detector or CO2 batteries, replace switches or outlets, install/remove summer window AC units, hang pictures, etc. If you do not see what your looking for just ask us in the description portion of the work order.

Commanders Corner

Dear members,

Wow, time is flying by and winter is upon us. We accomplished much over the summer. The roof had some minor damage from the tornado. Bad news is that it cost us $3750 to reseal the roof but, the good news is that the city reimbursed us for the cost. We are still waiting for the ARPA funds to come through (100K). I signed the contract from the Corporation Counsels office for the funds. It goes to the Mayor for signature next. Hopefully before the new year this action will be complete. The intent for the funds is repairing /replacing the rotted outside wood.

The project of repairing the brick and block work is complete. Total cost was $95,996.

For those that have not been to the post in a while, we completed the dart/tv room. It looks great and a perfect spot to watch the games.

For those that know Glen Wheelock Sr, Ed Marsh and I visited him recently.  On behalf of the post, we presented him with our VFW coin. He is not doing well but still hanging in there. Please keep him in your prayers!

We hope you and your families had a great Thanksgiving. We also wish you a safe, healthy and a Very Merry Christmas. God Bless you all!!!!!!

Upcoming Changes

Several items were voted on at our Oct meeting. We are purchasing a pull tab machine that will hold 3 boxes (aprox 9600 tickets). We also voted on purchasing a new cash register. The new register will be easier for the bartenders and make inventorying more streamlined.

Another item we discussed and passed was adding an Iraq and Afghanistan War Memorial Stone. We have 3 Roman military members that were killed in action during this time period. We will honor them and their families and all who served during this time period. We will dedicate the Stone during our Memorial Day Ceremony on 26 May 2025.

We have completed the 1st draft of the Post by-laws. We will send them out for comment by email. If you want to stop by the post, there are copies behind the bar. Ask the bartender for your copy. You can send feedback via email or just make notes on your copy and drop them at the post. Our goal is to take a vote in Jan to approve. Our last approved by-laws were in 2015.
