James Stevens

The Stevens Mansion was built in 1890 and completed in 1892 by James Stevens. The cost was approximately $100,000. In today’s dollars that would be approximately 3.4 million. James Stevens He was a 2-time Rome Mayor, NY Senator and Assemblyman and the president of an Iron Mill in Rome. He was married and had 2 children. His son, Sam Stevens was a race car driver and had the record for fastest car driver to cross the US from NY to San Francisco. Eventually the mansion was purchased by the VFW for $15,000.
